HOLI FESTIVAL OF COLORS

Once a year, the Holi Festival of Colors, celebrating the arrival of a new season, takes place around the world. Crowds of people playfully pelt each other with vibrant paints, adding a wildly colorful hue to the environment.

San Francisco-based photographer Thomas Hawk caught some amazing photographs of this year's celebration at Spanish Fork, Utah.

The series of images depict all of the fun and madness at the 2012 festival where hordes of people took part it in the jovial community activity.
Adults and children alike joined in on the good time, resulting in a welcoming multicolored mess.

Hawk's shots of these people with wide, open-mouth smiles are infectious and you can't help but smile along with them.

SAGMEISTER SHARES

as i surf around..
i found this very interesting interview from Stefan Sagmeister..

the whole interview is talking about his life and work,
here's part of the interview that im interested the most..

which type of project has given you the most satisfaction?
well the cop-out answer would be projects for good clients who have good products or good services.

that could be CD packaging for a band that I love or for people who are kind or a pleasure to work with, or smarter than me so I can learn something.

projects where I have the guts to work on them hard enough so that they become good in my eyes,
they always tend to be more rewarding than the ones where I was lazy.

and your studio is small...
we very purposefully remain small. we started in 1993 and there would have been many opportunities to grow through the nineties.

other than not being involved with the size of branding I definately think that a small studio only has advantages (apart from not being involved with the branding projects).

to keep the studio small was actually advice i received from tibor kalman.

do yo have any advice for the young?
try to be a good person and work your ass off

what are you afraid of regarding the future?
hmm (thinks) not much, I wouldn't call myself a very gutsy person but I can't say that I am scared of anything regarding the future... not at all.

I think that it's going to be fine. humanity adapts to all kinds of situations, and right now I think
is a good time to be alive.

and here's one set of his (art)work :

apparently, he had a talk in TED (ideas worth spreading) about 'Happiness by Design'..
its a very enlightening talk, you won't regret to spend 15 minutes of your time to watch him here :

enjoy =)

THE FLAMINGOS

Where do you go to see the greatest bird spectacle on earth?

The Kenya Lake System in the Great Rift Valley. Come at the right time and you'll see the shoreline of Kenya's lakes turn bright pink as they're filled with millions of flamingos.

The lesser flamingos (the smallest species of them) gather at these lakes to feed on the abundant blue-green algae which thrive in the warm alkaline waters. UNESCO calls it " the single most important foraging site for the lesser flamingo anywhere."

Professional wildlife photographer Martin Harvey was lucky enough to see this for himself, coming back with these amazing photos. As he told us, "To witness a concentration of birds like this is, without a doubt, one of the greatest ornithological experiences in the world.

There is constant movement of pink as birds move about the lake in search of food or disturbance by predators. It truly is an enjoyably overwhelming wildlife experience."

Which lakes would should one actually visit? "The best place to see large numbers of flamingo is either Lake Nakuru or Lake Bogoria in Kenya," he says. "However the flamingos of East Africa move between several widely separated lakes depending on food availability. It is therefore very much a matter of luck to see a huge concentration like that in these pictures."

What does Harvey hope others will get out of these photos? "Despite their apparent large numbers, flamingo are a threatened species due to their very specific feeding and breeding requirements," he says. "As conservationists, we can only try to get people aware of this truly incredible species and hope to put pressure on governments to protect their habitat."
