AMERICAN TINTYPE

Good day everyone!

merry christmas and happy new year 2013..!
we survived the doomsday..! yeaaayy!

that means i can still continue writing alot of things on this blog
=)

anyway, i just found a very inspiring video, directed by Matt Morris..
its about tintype photography,

it brought my memories during college, when i spent 9 hours straight in the dark-room..
i didn't even remember that i bought a corn-bread for breakfast..!
and so, that day.. my breakfast turned into my supper =)

have you ever print any photos using chemicals inside a dark-room..?
well, if you ever did one.. and happen to like it, Im sure you will really excited watching the video below :

>> American Tintype <<

and if you never tried one, i must say.. this is one of the thing you need to try at least once in your life time..
you wont regret it watching the magic happens..
for me, watching the image slowly appears on the paper is like watching the sun rises..

slowly, it appears..
magically
=)

meanwhile you wait for the internet buffering,
here's some screenshots and quote from the artist :

"with the antique process, the process itself speaks to the image.. and it will make things happen, flaws.."

"i like it, it's kinda.. it shows its real.."

since it takes 10-20 seconds to expose the plate, we'll gonna need tools to hold the subject still

and the magic happens =)

around this digital photography era, people seems to be controlled by perfection..
autofocus, photoshop, burst-shutter-speed, and many more features that can lead us to a very flawless images

it doesn't mean that i against it though.. =)

its just, taking photos in manual (analogue) way.. feels more human,
it gives me some sort of therapy..

that's the reason im saving money to buy carl zeiss 50mm, manual focus
=)

MOTHER'S DAY - XL AXIATA

Hi guys,

recently i had a BTS project for a short movie directed by Adriyanto W. Dewo..
it was commissioned by XL Axiata, to commemorate Mother's Day

here's the link for Behind The Scenes :
--> behind the scene <--

i personally took this project as a learning-step about scene-shots, or in bahasa is "foto adegan"

having a project before with the director (Adri) and the producer (Doryto Tantri) surely gave me privilege to explore this scene-shots freely,

and fortunately the DOP was also friendly..! if I'm not mistaken, his name was Taswin. Adri told me that Taswin was the DOP for the previous XL Axiata's TVCommercial, and I can see that by how he set the lightings up. a very skillful person he was..!
--> XL TVC - DOP by Taswin <--

So, the director, producer, and DOP were not disturbed at all by my presence.
but, all of that were not went well with the sound-team..

my camera's shutter sound distracted them, they told me not to shoot too many for the sake of the sound quality..
well, i guess in this case i need to find additional equipments for this scene-shots thingy.

One of my friend once told me about this special camera-case which can absorb the sound of the camera's shutter..
it looks like i need to get digging about that information more,

maybe you guys now anything about it..?
please, share your knowledge and expertise if you do =)

i will extremely thankful
=)

and so, here's the final version for the movie..!

and here's the scene-shots by me =)

Happy Mother's Day..!

ANNE MENKE - SEE THE WORLD BEAUTIFUL

Back to blog..!

been away for quite some time,
preparation and the wedding surely comes as my first priority..

so my-blog had to wait for me to finally adapt our (me and my beloved wife) new work-flow
=)

this time, its a book from a senior photographer, Anne Menke..

a book that portrays her travel so far around the world in search for a perfect place to execute her works (mostly for magazine-photoshoot).

here's the introduction part from her book,

-

As a fashion and travel photographer my favorite thing to do is go a little further up the mountain, or a little farther down a bumpy dirt road to document indigenous and ethnic lifestyle -- the real source of many of fashion's best ideas

My inspiration from a young age was a reportage photographers like Alfred Eisenstaedt and Henri Cartier Bresson

This book represents 10 years of travel and discoveries. I trekked thousands of miles and hours from Jujuy, Argentina to Ulan Bator, Mongolia to Lijang, China and Pourvoirie du Lae Blanc, Canada.

During time off between fashion shoots in remote places for Vogue, Conde Nast Traveler, and other magazines, I was lucky enough to glimpse these beautiful cultures with their traditional iconographies, architecture, and style of dress.

Meeting people with wildly different references and exploring new socio-cultural terrain is the source and inspiration of my life, to share that with the world is an incredible gift.

Beauty is Happiness, Happiness is Beauty

You can find it anywhere, but it helps to have a good pair of walking shoes and and 35mm lens.

and these pictures below are from her fashion-shoot works

I really like the way she plays with all the colors, details, and compositions..
all together somehow creates a very positively beautiful pictures..!
